Repasito:
1. For commands, the ‘tú‘ for has a different conjugation depending on if the command is ‘Negativo’ or ‘Afirmativo’
Ejemplo:
Habla más despacio.
No hables tan rápido.
Haz 2 tazas de café.
No hagas café para mi.
2. Ud. and Uds., formal commands, do not change for ‘Negativo’ or ‘Afirmativo’
Ejemplo:
Hable más despacio. / Hablen más despacio.
No hable tan rápido. / No hablen tan rápido.
Haga 2 tazas de café. / Hagan 2 tazas de café.
No haga café para mi. / No hagan café para mi.
3. As we start to work with double pronouns today, Remember 2 things:
R.I.D. and ‘Don’t lelo, selo.’
4. Adding pronouns to a command – Affirmative (formal and informal)
The pronouns MUST be attached to the command – No option
Ejemplo:
Compra la canción – Buy the song.
Cómprala – Buy it. – Remember to add the written accent mark when you add a pronoun or two.
Escriban sus nombres aquí. – Write your names here.
Escríbanlos aquí. – Write them here.
¿Dónde debo sentarme? – Where should I sit?
Siéntese en esta silla, por favor. – Sit in this chair, please.
Llámame mañana. – Call me tomorrow.
Dámelo. – Give it to me.
Dámela.
Dámelos.
Dámelas.
Dáselo. – Give it to him/her.
Dásela.
Dáselos.
Dáselas mañana en la fiesta. – Give them to him/her tomorrow at the party.
5. If the command is Negative, (formal or informal) the pronouns MUST go in front.
Ejemplo:
¿Compro las flores? – Shall I buy the flowers?
No, no las compres. – No, don’t buy them.
No escriban sus nombres en el papel.
No los escriban.
No te sientes allí. – Don’t sit there.
Siéntate aquí. – Sit here.
No me llames por la mañana. Llámame por la tarde.
No me lo des. – Dónt give it to me.
No me la des.
No me los des.
No me las des hasta mi cumpleaños. – Don’t give them to me until my birthday.
No se lo dé. – Don’t give it to him/her.
Práctica:
1. Cocina la cena para nosotros. – Cook dinner for us.
Cocínanosla, por favor. – Cook it for us, please.
2. Don’t cook it for us.
3. Lee el libro a ellos.
4. Don’t read it to them.
5. Wash your hands.
6. Don’t wash them with cold water.
7. Mándenme el reporte mañana.
8. Don’t send it to me tomorrow.
9. Pide una margarita para ellos, también.
10. Don’t order a margarita for them. They want beer.
Action steps: Hmm. Have fun? Listen for these. They are everywhere. Commands can take some time to verbalize. Do them on paper first. It’s a great mental challenge just like a puzzle. Say them aloud as you write them. That helps you assimilate them faster.
