Hola,
Today we’ll take what we’ve worked on this week and put it into some actionable questions and statements.
Notice the little words (the definite and indefinite articles, gender and singular and plural agreement)
Location
¿Dónde están las llaves? – Where are the keys?
Están en la mesa – They’re on the table.
¿Dónde está el perro? – Where are the dog?
Está en el patio trasero. – He’s in the backyard.
Los Estados Unidos están en el norte – The United States is in the north.
¿Hay una farmacia cerca de aquí? – Is there a pharmacy near here?
Sí, está en la calle Miraflores cerca de la Plaza. Yes, it’s on Miraflores St. near the Plaza.
Need
¿Necesita Usted una copia del recibo? – Do you need a copy of the reciept? (de + el are contracted=del)
¿Necesitas un vaso de agua? – Do you need a glass of water?
Sí, por favor. Tengo una tos. Yes, please, I have a cough.
Misc.
Hay un problema. – There’s a problem.
Necesitamos una solución. – We need a solution.
El jueves hay una conferencia en la Universidad. – On Thursday there’s a conference at the University.
Likes
Me gusta la música de Rodrigo y Gabriela. – I like the music of Rodrigo and Gabriela.
¿Te gustan los poemas de Pablo Neruda? – Do you like Pablo Neruda poems?
People
La amiga de María es terapista. – María’s friend is a therapist.
Un hombre en mi trabajo es puertorriqueño – A man at my work is Puerto Rican.
Ordering
En un restaurante
Quisiera un burrito, por favor. – I’d like a burrito, please.
¿Quiere el chile verde o el chile colorado? – Do you want the green or red chile?
El verde, por favor. – The green, please.
Quisiera dos enchiladas. Una de pollo y una de queso. I’d like 2 enchiladas. One chicken and one cheese.
2 sopapillas y la cuenta, por favor. – Two sopapillas and the bill, please.
Action steps: Keep looking for and observing these little words. Notice them in writing and in your own speech.
