This week we have the home as one of our themes.
On Monday in our Business Spanish we did outside home repairs and on Monday (coming up) stay tuned…


We’ve had the question, ¿Cómo se dice? – How do you say? and talked about how this is a great phrase to be proactive building vocabulary that you need.
¿Cómo se dice I have a question en español? – Se dice Tengo una pregunta.
¿Cóme se dice zanahoria en inglés? – Se dice carrot.


Now let’s learn ¿Qué es esto?

With ¿Cómo se dice?, you don’t need to have the object in front of you.
With ¿Qué es esto?, you have the object in front of you. This is great to use when shopping in an open air market.

Today we’ll apply it around the house:
el hogar – home


¿Qué es esto?


En la Sala... – In the living room…

¿Qué es esto?
Es el sofá
. – It’s the sofa.
Es un sillón – It’s an arm chair.
Es una lámpara – It’s a lamp.
Es una mesa – It’s a table.
Es un cuadro – It’s a picture.


En la cocina... – In the ktichen…
el comedor – the dining room

¿Qué es esto?
Es la estufa
. – It’s the stove.
Es el horno. – It’s the oven.
Es la nevera. – It’s the fridge.
Es un armario. – It’s a cupboard.
Es el fregadero. – It’s the sink.


En el dormitorio... – In the bedroom…

¿Qué es esto?
Es la cama
. – It’s the bed.
Es una almohada. – It’s a pillow.
Es el armario / el ropero. – It’s the closet.
Es el tocador. – It’s the dresser.
Es el despertador. – It’s the alarm clock.


En el baño... – In the bathroom…

¿Qué es esto?
Es la ducha
. – It’s the shower.
Es el lavabo. – It’s the sink.
Es una toalla. – It’s a towel.
Es el espejo. – It’s the mirrow.
Es papel higiénico. – It’s toilet paper.


Action Steps: Get out the sticky notes and label your house. You’ll only need to leave them up for a week before you have them all memorized.
