Today we have a list of other reflexive verbs that are important to have in your speech. Some may fit into the categories above and other are reflexive just because they are.

1. llamarse – to call oneself

2. irse – to leave

3. callarse – to be quiet, shut up

4. quejarse – to complain

5. mudarse – to move (change residence)

6. divertirse – to have fun

7. preocuparse – to worry

8. quedarse – to stay

9. sorprenderse – to be surprised

10. darse cuenta de – to realize

11. equivocarse – to be wrong

12. acordarse (de) – to remember

 

 

Ejemplos y usos

 

1. llamarse – to call oneself

¿Cómo te llamas?
Me llamo Leobardo

¿Cómo se llama tu restaurante favorito?
Se llama El Blue

 

2. irse – to leave
Note: irse means to leave and ‘ir‘ means to go

Vámanos – let’s go (now).

Ya me voy. – I’m leaving.

¿Te vas? – Are you leaving.

 

3. callarse – to be quiet, shut up

Me callo. – I’ll be quiet.

¡Cállate! – Shut up! or Be quiet!

 

 

4. quejarse – to complain

Ellos se quejan de todo. – They complain about everything

¿Quejas? Llame al 303-466-8830 – Complaints? Call 303-…

 

 

5. mudarse – to move (change residence)

¿Cuándo te mudas? – When are you moving?

Me mudo este fin de semana. – I’m moving this weekend.

No me gusta mudarme. – I don´t like moving.

 

 

6. divertirse (e-ie) – to have fun

¿Te diviertes? – Are you having fun?

Sí, me divierto mucho. – Yes, I’m having a lot of fun.

¡Diviértanse! – Have fun, you guys!

 

 

7. preocuparse – to worry

No te preocupes. – Don’t worry.

 

 

8. quedarse – to stay

Cuando van de vacaciones a Cancún, ¿Dónde se quedan Uds?
When you go to Cancun for vacation, Where do you guys stay?

Nos quedamos en la playa en un hotel que se llama Mar y Sol.
We stay on the beach in a hotel called Sea and Sun.

 

 

9. sorprenderse – to be surprised

Eso me sorprende mucho. – That surprises me a lot.

 

 

10. darse cuenta de – to realize

No me di cuenta de eso. – I didn´t realize that.

 

11. equivocarse – to be wrong

Perdón, me equivoco. – I’m sorry, I’m wrong.

Tú tienes razón y nos equivocamos. – You are right and we are wrong.

 

 

12. acordarse (de) – to remember

No recuerdo. ¿Y tú?

No me acuerdo tampoco. – I don’t remember either.

 

 

Action steps: find verbs and sayings that you like and can use. Take them along with you in your conversations.
